Web and app from one shared data and token package: catalogue, cafe, garden, agenda, cart, checkout and reservations.
The brief
Independent bookshops are places first and shops second, and their sites rarely carry either. We wanted a digital front for a bookshop that is also a cafe, a garden and a stage for readings, without losing the paper.
Our approach
A paper and ink palette with gold hairlines and ornaments, Cormorant Garamond display type with Italiana italics dropped mid sentence, Inter for reading and a mono face for eyebrows and coordinates. A cinematic home hero, a catalogue with shelf and language filters, a cafe menu by time of day, a garden page, an agenda and a cart that ends in a pickup code.
The build
A Turborepo with a Next.js site and an Expo app sharing one content and token package so colours and copy cannot drift. Cart and reservations with a mocked checkout, push notification preferences, add to calendar and a daily recommendation keyed to the date.
The result
A bookshop that reads like a bookshop on every screen.
Self initiated concept. Not affiliated with any bookshop.
