A hero that resolves to a single choice and hands the page straight to the work: Cheese That Hurt one side, fourteen years of illustration the other.
The brief
An illustrator and art director with fourteen years of ink, in editorial, advertising, brands and his own animated series, Cheese That Hurt, had no single place that was unmistakably his. He needed a home that put the work first and made the visitor choose what they came for, without burying either side.
Our approach
He isn't a client. He's the other half of engenho, the side that draws. So the brief was as clear as a brief gets. We built the page around a single decision, a hand lettered wordmark and then the choice itself, on a warm paper ground that lets the ink characters carry all the colour.
The build
Next.js on Vercel, animated with Motion, set in Fraunces. Two gallery routes, `/cheese` and `/illustration`, behind the split, a fourteen year experience timeline, a tools and media index, and one contact line: 'have a story worth drawing?'. Statically rendered and quick, so the linework arrives before anything else.
The result
A portfolio that reads like the artist it's for: confident, hand drawn, all ink. Luís's line; our build under it.
All illustration and lettering by Luís Moreira. Site design and build by engenho.
